A counter-weighted water seal spirometer. The main pen was attached to the counter-weight and drew a volume-time curve on graph paper attached to the kymograph drum. The secondary pen was attached to a mechanical integrator and was used for MVV tests. Photo found at http://www.pemed.com/techantq/tantique.htm

Oximeter, Biox II, circa 1985
An ear oximeter. Unit weighs around 25 pounds. Biox became Ohmeda shortly after this unit was manufactured, approximately 1985. Photo found at http://www.pemed.com/techantq/tantique.htm
Spirometer, Vitalograph, 1990’s
The Vitalograph spirometer is a dry wedge bellow design. A pressure stylus draws a volume-time curve on graph paper. The FVC and FEV1 are measured from the graph paper. Developed in the 1970’s this model was likely manufactured in the 1990’s. Photo found at http://www.medwow.com/i_preview.php?sale_number=382227027
Spirometer, Marion Labs Spirostat, circa 1980
The Marion Labs Spirostat used a disposable turbine sensor. An optical pickup counted the revolutions and converted them to volume. A volume-time curve was printed onto Polaroid film and the plastic overlay was used to measure FVC and FEV1. The turbine was small (less than 1/2″ in diameter) and resistance through the sensor was high. Manufactured and sold around 1980.
